Australia's wild island state — ancient rainforests, glassy wilderness lakes, orange-lichen coastlines, and some of the world's most extraordinary luxury lodges. Tasmania rewards slow travel and curious families.

Tap pins to explore stays
From ultra-luxury wilderness lodges to intimate boutique hotels — Tasmania's best stays for families who love the wild.
Freycinet Peninsula
Australia's most awarded luxury lodge. Stunning suites overlooking Great Oyster Bay and the Hazards mountain range. All-inclusive with guided experiences including kayaking, wildlife walks, and oyster farm tours. Truly once-in-a-lifetime.
Lake St Clair
One of the world's most unique stays — rooms built into a 1930s pumphouse extending over the glassy waters of Lake St Clair in the heart of the Tasmanian wilderness. Extraordinary and deeply peaceful.
Hobart
Hobart's most talked-about boutique hotel — a stunning waterfront property on the Hobart docks with beautifully designed rooms, a rooftop bar, and curated art throughout. Perfect base for MONA, Salamanca Market, and the Tasmanian food scene.
Cradle Mountain
Iconic wilderness retreat at the foot of Cradle Mountain. Cosy king spa suites with fireplaces, and wombats wandering through the grounds at dusk. The Waldheim Alpine Spa is extraordinary after a day on the trails.
Bay of Fires
A 4-day guided walk ending at this stunning eco-lodge perched above the famous orange-lichen rocks and turquoise waters. All-inclusive with gourmet food, fine Tasmanian wines, and expert naturalist guides.
Strahan, West Coast
Stay at Strahan Village on Macquarie Harbour and take the legendary Gordon River Cruise into the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Ancient Huon pines, glassy reflections, and absolute silence.
Wombats wander through Cradle Mountain Lodge at dusk. Pademelons, quolls, and Tasmanian devils are genuinely wild here. Kids are absolutely mesmerised.
Hobart's Salamanca Market, the Agrarian Kitchen cooking school, and the Huon Valley apple orchards — Tasmania is a genuine food destination. Kids eat incredibly well here.
The Museum of Old and New Art is one of the world's most extraordinary museums. Older kids and teens love it. Take the MONA ROMA ferry from Hobart for the full experience.
Tasmania rewards slow travel. Don't try to see everything. Pick one wilderness area — Freycinet, Cradle Mountain, or the Southwest — and go deep.
Tasmanian weather changes fast. Even in summer, pack a waterproof layer, fleece, and sunscreen. The wilderness areas can be cold even in January.
Hobart is the best base for the south (Freycinet, Port Arthur, MONA). Launceston suits the north (Cradle Mountain, Bay of Fires). Consider flying into one and out the other.
One of Tasmania’s most magical and sensory-friendly experiences — and one of our family’s absolute favourites.
The Huon Valley, just 45 minutes south of Hobart, is Tasmania’s berry heartland. Pick-your-own farms open from December through March. Look for Lucaston Park and Westerway Raspberry Farm — both are family-run, relaxed, and genuinely beautiful.

Raspberry picking in the Huon Valley was one of those rare travel moments where every single one of our kids was completely in their element. No meltdowns, no boredom, no screens. Just pure joy.
